Getting Started
This section helps you get up and running with AppProfileSafe. It covers system requirements, installation, folder structure, configuration, and an overview of the main Dashboard.
Getting Started Overview
AppProfileSafe backs up and restores application settings — registry entries, configuration files, and application data folders — to simplify migrations, device replacements, and disaster recovery.
The tool runs on Windows 10 or later (64-bit) and requires administrator privileges for restore operations. Both a graphical user interface (GUI) and a command-line interface (CLI) are available.
Topics in This Section
Follow these pages in order for the fastest path to your first backup:
- System Requirements — Supported operating systems, runtime, permissions, and disk space
- Installation & First Launch — Download, extract, and launch the application

Your First Backup
Launch AppProfileSafe as administrator. Click Export on the Dashboard, select one or more applications, choose a target location (local folder or UNC network path), and start the export. The backup is stored as a set of files alongside a manifest XML file.
If you do not have application definitions yet, use the App Definition Editor to create them. Click Create New in the Export window and use the structured editor with the registry browser and file system browser. See Application Definitions for details.
Your First Restore
Click Import on the Dashboard, browse to a manifest file from a previous backup, select the applications to restore, and start the import. Use Simulation mode first to preview what changes will be applied.
If restoring to a different machine or user account, load mapping rules to translate registry and file paths automatically.
